Updated October 2026

Tickets

Full fares, zone 1 (the city): 75 minutes PLN 4.40, 24 hours PLN 15. Zones 1 and 2: 20 minutes PLN 3.40, 90 minutes PLN 7, 24 hours PLN 26 (wtp.waw.pl). Buy tickets from machines on most buses, in the new trams, at metro stations and near stops, at newsstands or on your phone; validate them as soon as you board, or at the gate to the metro platforms. Luggage needs no ticket. Travelling without a valid ticket risks a PLN 266 fine (Warsaw Tourism Office).

Metro lines M1 and M2

Line M1 runs north to south through the centre; line M2 runs west to east and crosses under the Vistula to Praga. They meet at Świętokrzyska (Warsaw Tourism Office). At night the metro runs until midnight on weekdays and to 3am at weekends; night buses are marked N.

Bus 180 and the Royal Route

Bus 180 is an ordinary line that takes you to most of Warsaw’s best-known sights along the Royal Route to Wilanów; the whole route takes about 60–70 minutes (Warsaw Tourism Office). In summer, the vintage bus 100 and tram 36 run at weekends: see our Cars & Trams page.

From the airport

From Warsaw Chopin Airport, bus 175 runs to the centre and the Old Town, and suburban trains S2, S3 and RL run from the airport station. The 20-, 75- and 90-minute tickets are valid on the RL train between Warszawa Płudy and Lotnisko Chopina (wtp.waw.pl).

The trains

Warsaw has three large stations with long-distance trains: Warszawa Centralna, at Aleje Jerozolimskie 54 in the heart of the city; Warszawa Zachodnia, next to the international bus station; and Warszawa Wschodnia, on the Praga side (Warsaw Tourism Office). PKP Intercity runs the long-distance trains; check timetables and buy tickets on intercity.pl. Tickets bought from the conductor carry an extra fee.
