The back story

Kampinos National Park: the back story

In depth·Kampinos

The primeval forest at Warsaw’s north-west edge, with its cycling trail and the Palmiry Memorial.

The Kampinos National Park is a primeval forest just outside the city, crossed by the Kampinos Cycling Trail. At its edge is the Palmiry Memorial, which commemorates several thousand Poles murdered there during the Second World War (Warsaw Tourism Office).

Getting there

The park begins at the city’s north-west edge; trails and visitor centres are on kampn.gov.pl.

The forest

Sand dunes, wetlands and old forest; the Palmiry Memorial is a place of remembrance.

Stay on the marked trails: this is a national park.

Our advice: hire a bike and follow the Kampinos Cycling Trail.
